Strategies for the Effective Implementation of e-Government Projects

Thomas B. Riley

Abstract

This paper examines the meaning of e-Government and other related concepts. This paper examines the meaning of e-government and other related concepts such as digital government, online government or in a certain context transformational government. We argue that most governments have realized that to be effective they must use information and communications technology (ICT) to exchange information and services with citizens, businesses, and other arms of government, and are therefore investing in e-government. The paper further points out that the most important anticipated benefits of e-government include improved efficiency, convenience, and better accessibility of public services. Given that many government ICT projects fail, we believe that an effective e-government program requires effective strategies. Before concluding with further suggestions, we present the strategies for effective implementation of e-government projects.
